British Console Table | Carved Wood Hallway Table with Gold Lattice Frieze | EKAR FURNITURE
The Carlton House British Hall Console Table is the kind of piece that sets the tone for an entire home the moment a guest walks through the door. Its long, narrow silhouette is designed to sit against a wall in a hallway or entryway, offering just enough surface for a lamp, a vase of flowers, a tray for keys, or a sculptural object—without crowding the space. The top is finished in a deep, warm red-brown wood with a delicate gold line tracing its edge, and beneath it a striking black-and-gold frieze runs the full length of the table. There, a repeating oval lattice pattern in gilt is punctuated by a central gilded fluted block and small rosette panels at each corner, giving the table a rhythm and richness that rewards a second look.
This console table is built the traditional way, with attention lavished on details most people never notice at first glance. The four tapered legs are painted in deep black and finished with gilded collar ornament near the top and polished gold caps at the foot, a detail that adds elegance while protecting floors from scuffs. Beneath the table, slim curved stretchers cross between the legs, adding structural strength and a graceful line that keeps the base from feeling heavy. The frieze ornament is carved and gilded by hand, with the oval lattice worked evenly along the full span so the pattern never loses its rhythm. The wood is sealed with a durable, low-sheen finish that brings out the natural depth of the grain and stands up to daily use.
A console table like this is made for the transitional spaces where first impressions are formed. In an entryway, it anchors a wall with a mirror above and a small dish for keys below. In a long hallway, it breaks up the run of plain wall and gives the eye somewhere to rest. In a living room, it can stand behind a sofa as a slim, elegant surface for lamps and books, or against a feature wall as a focal point. In a dining room, it serves as a sideboard for serving dishes and linens during dinner parties. It is equally at home in hospitality settings—hotel lobbies, reception areas, club foyers, and boutique guesthouses—where its classical proportions and gilded detailing create an immediate sense of occasion.
